What makes Repaint different from Squarespace, Wix, or Framer?

In older website builders, you edit a website by dragging and dropping blocks around. Even though you don't have to code, you still have to manually design every detail. They haven't introduced AI features beyond generating first drafts, images, and text.

In Repaint, AI is the main editing experience. That means it can do more for you. With AI chat you can add new pages, sections, links, animations, images, contact forms, videos, embeds, and more... And Repaint can make edits across the entire site at once. It's easier, faster, and the results are higher quality.

Is Repaint just ChatGPT with a website template?

It's a bit more complicated. AI chatbots can write code, but they don't handle web hosting so you can't use them to run a website. Even if you could, Repaint has a bunch of features that make it better at making websites, like web design knowledge, a template library, an image library, and more...

That said, we like the metaphor. Repaint is basically ChatGPT: The Website Builder. It's an AI chat app that's specifically designed to make websites.

How is Repaint different from other AI website builders?

Most other AI website builders are designed like general coding tools. They show you code, give you out-of-the-box AI outputs, and make everything from scratch. This means they reinvent the wheel every time. It's slow, unreliable, and usually results in low quality and generic websites.

Repaint doesn't start from scratch. We mix AI, handmade templates, and a custom design process. The result is websites that are higher quality, faster, and more reliable.

Will my website look generic or obviously AI-made?

No. Repaint starts from professional design templates, and then adapts them to your website. We don't rely on the default AI output. This means Repaint websites look different from the generic style.

Can I import my existing website?

Accepted Answer

Partially. Repaint can take a URL, scan it, and build a modern version. It has access to the text, images, and page structure. But that's all. It can't clone the exact style on another website. Repaint can modernize old websites, but it doesn't make perfect clones.

Is "repainting" a site legal if I don't own the original?

Accepted Answer

You can run the process. But when you publish, you're still subject to normal copyright laws. You can't use copyrighted text or images from another website without permission. The only reason to repaint a copyrighted website you don't own is to start from the same general structure. You'd have to change all the content.

Can I make an e-commerce store in Repaint?

No. You're able to connect another service using links or embeds. But Repaint doesn't have native e-commerce functionality yet.

No. Repaint makes websites end-to-end. It's more like a website builder than a coding assistant. It's not made for low-level access to source code and hosting. If that's important to you, we suggest using an AI coding assistant directly.
